Each part of the brain has got a different job to do ranging from handling sensory input, visual and auditory perception, integrating information and processing emotions.

So the key question is whether the quest for artificial general intelligence should be about mirroring what the brain can do through software and hardware, and if so how should software and hardware be designed.
One approach is to build a computer simulated brain from the ground up. The Blue Brain Project[i] is a Swiss research initiative that aims to create a digital reconstruction of rodent and eventually human brains by reverse-engineering mammalian brain circuitry.
